Frustration

Frustration is common among my clients when we start their coaching journey.  They are frustrated with how their life looks, frustrated with their relationships, frustrated in their jobs.  Just all round frustrated.  Fortunately for me they don’t explode or haven’t exploded… yet.  They have taken a sensible step and sought coaching because they have the awareness that something needs to change.  And it is them!

Nothing in this world changes unless you do.  You might think your boss is the source of your frustration for example.  You are the start and end of your frustration.  Your boss will continue to behave the way he or she has always behaved.  The only thing you can change is how you react to him or her in those moments.  Self-control kicks in; you bite your tongue, vent to a co-worker or take it out on the treadmill at the gym that evening.  And then bring it to your coach.

The source of your frustration is very unlikely to go away of its own accord.  Coaching equips you with tools to face life’s changes differently.  See things from another point of view.  And most importantly it allows you to see yourself as others see you.  Fact, you are the source of another person’s frustration.

And sometimes we make a habit of frustrating ourselves.  Especially in those moments that we are not being kind to ourselves.  There are two people at war here, both are you.  So practice self-compassion and kindness in order to rid yourself of any frustration and then you can continue with your day.

So what changes can you make in your behaviour today to A. curb your frustration with others and yourself and B. assist to alleviate the frustration that you re causing someone else in your team or at home?
