It’s mid year, six months to go as we slide towards December, Christmas-time, summer, holidays and all that that brings. At the start of each year I take time to set my goals for the year and plan how I would like my year to be. I set five goals against five areas of my life: relationships, physical, financial, personal growth and work-related.
Today I hauled out that sheet to review and reflect on it….
Yes, personal circumstance change over a six month period, however I resist amending my goals. This is a show of my commitment and determination that I have to achieve my goals this year. Some I have already achieved especially the work-related ones; launch my new website, done in February, coach globally, achieved in March and increasing my visibility online is ongoing each month. It is not that I prioritised the work-related goals or forgot the others. These just had more obvious measurables and echo the fact that my business has been an area of focus for 2018 – that was the plan after all.
Don’t get me wrong I don’t feel I have failed at achieving in any of the other areas of my life, far from it. The relationship goals I set for myself aren’t as tangible, they are largely based on feeling and some are about being honest with myself and others and about speaking up; asking other people for what I need and want and know I ultimately deserve.
The area of my life that I am the most critical is on my physicality and accordingly my physical goals. I may not have lost the 5kgs I set out to lose in January and that’s okay. Each day I nourish my body with good food, exercise regularly and pay attention not only to the quantity of sleep I give my body but the quality of sleep. Nothing runs on a flat battery.
How are you working on your 2018 goals? If you failed to set goals in January; how about setting goals for the next 12 months? No one says you have to start in January. It is more important to keep the goal the goal whatever that may be for you – consider what is important for you and tune in to what it is that you really really want. I’d love the opportunity to assist you in setting and reaching your goals in 2018.
