What is life coaching?
Life coaching is the use of various methods to assist you in finding clarity and shifting from a current way of being to a new way being. It’s an empowering process that facilitates you achieving defined goals in business, career, relationships or self-development.
The coaching process begins with an assessment of what is going on in your life (current reality), then unpacks the challenges or obstacles you are facing in order to map out how you ideally want you life to be (new or desired reality) and what resources or course of action is needed to achieve just that.
Why would you seek life coaching?
Individuals seek out life coaching for several reasons, for example when you finds yourself:
- Stuck in a rut or at crossroads and unsure how to move forward
- Hitting a lot of dead ends or repeating the same cycles and wish to unpack these
- Having a cluttered or chaotic life and feeling like things are out of control
- Wanting to make changes but you do not know what to do
- Needing a sounding board
Life coaching has many benefits. The coaching process helps one to discover new and fresh perspectives. It can assist one to become more focused and confidence.
What is the difference between life coaching and psychotherapy?
Although there are some similarities in that both modalities help you to solve problems and make change in your life, Life Coaching is different from therapy or counselling mainly because coaching does not treat symptoms of depression, anxiety, mental illnesses and addictions.
Although coaching acknowledges the past, it is not a place to dwell. It is unlike Therapy where time is spent with a Health Care Professional to analyse the past as a tool to understand present behaviour, revisit any past traumatic event or the origins of a self-destructive habit to help facilitate healing.
With Life Coaching you want to develop and maximise the present experience. More simply, Therapy focuses on why things happened, and the treatment or resolution of a particular issue. Life Coaching focuses on how to live better.
